Over some last few days we've witnessed some new developments from the HRC campaign again revealing their increasing desperation.
First, there are the continuing efforts of states like Florida and Michigan to leapfrog the primary schedule, thereby diminishing the significance of the Iowa caucus. It is no coincidence that while Hillary is struggling in the polls in Iowa, she is far ahead in Michigan, and especially, Florida.
It is likewise no coincidence that the individuals pushing for the the movement of their scheduled primaries in Michigan and Florida, are DLC types Senator Carl Levin and other Clinton allies. Hillary's people know that her chances are imperiled under the current primary schedule, so they're simply going to rig the playing field.
Second, is this bit of ridiculousness I read on politicalwire.com:
According to the latest Evans-Novak Political Report, "important supporters" of Sen. Hillary Clinton "are laying the groundwork for a campaign against Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) for Vice President on grounds that he adds nothing to the ticket. Prominent names offered as alternatives: Former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner, Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) and Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland."
Apart from the fact that this bizarre promotion of DLC hacks like Warner and Bayh reeks of Carville, the whole thing is messed up in so many ways. Hillary's people speculating to the media about a VP in August is the height of arrogance and a slap in the face to the other candidates. While it is obviously a continuation of the ongoing ploy to portray Hillary as the "inevitable" nominee, we must ask why she is so desperate to convince us of her "inevitability". I'd suggest the answer is fear of Obama's fundraising prowess. Most of the coroporate and lobbiest donors she relies on are maxed out while Obama's grassroots support continues to grow. Her campaign is thinking that she must lock in the perception of her inevitability before the next quarterly fundraising numbers are revealed, in order to lock in the institutional supporters who fear for their jobs and a loss of influence.
The whole thing really represents the worst of politics, and hopefully we can show them that we're not as easy to manipulate as they might believe.
